Growing Information
Sow in a heated propogator (20-25C) from February-May in pots or trays of moist seed compost and cover seeds with a fine sprinkling of compost or vermiculite, do not exclude light as this helps germination. Keep the surface of the compost moist. Germination up to 21 days. When large enough to handle, transplant seedlings into small pots.Gradually acclimatise plants to cooler conditions for a few weeks before planting out after all risk of frost, 30cm (12in) apart or into large containers filled with a moisture retaining compost.Note: When they first germinate, plants are often green. They will show purple colouring after about 8 leaves have developed. They become darker once outside.

Best sown directly in April/May or August where they are to flower. Sow 6mm deep in rows 30cm apart into weed-free, moist, warm soil. Germination up to 21 days, but can be a little slower. Once germinated and seedlings are large enough to handle they can be thinned to 25cm spacing. Seedlings which have been thinned can be replanted. Alternatively, seeds can be started inside in February/March and planted out in May.
