Balloon flower has gained its name by the unusual "balloon" shape of its bud, before they open into striking, 5-lobed cups of blue to purple. These plants contrast nicely in the perennial garden, mixing well with baby's breath and lillies. Long lasting blooms in July and August make excellent cut flowers, if the cut ends of the stems are seared.
