Lettuce ‘Sulfita’ is a cross between a crunchy red Iceberg and a curly red Batavia, with a wonderful cherry colour to liven up your salad. Pick single leaves as and when needed or harvest whole lettuce heads. ‘Sulfita’ is slow to bolt and shows good resistance to downy mildew. The iceberg heritage gives the sturdy, crisp heads a longer fridge-life than other varieties. Height and spread: 30cm (12in).

Sowing Information

Direct sow lettuce seeds outdoorr into well prepared, fertile, moist soil in sun or semi shade. Sow seeds thinly at a depth of 1cm (1/2") in drills 30cm (12") apart in soil which has been raked to a fine tilth. When large enough to handle, thin out seedlings to 30cm (12") apart and cover with a protective netting or fleece to prevent attack from birds and insects. Make regular sowings for a constant supply. Can also be started off in modules/seed trays.
