We've had a purple skinned carrot before, now we have one that's purple throughout! So what? Well, it's the 'mega' healthy carrot. Purple Sun not only has vitamin A like normal carrots but it is also packed full of anthocyamins giving the roots their purple colour. What are anthocyanins? They are antioxidants, reputed to be so effective in the prevention of many diseases. Oh and by the way, the roots retain their colour with cooking - and they taste good too! 135 days from sowing to harvest (taken from our own trials and may vary in different areas).

Growing Information

Sow Amsterdam Forcing 3 in February for use June-July. Sow later varieties March-July, and store maincrop roots in dry sand or soil. (12-20 weeks maturity).

Sowing Information

Sow thinly direct into finely raked, moist, warm weed-free soil a depth of 13mm ( 1?2") (Germination 15-20 days). Allow 30cm (12") between rows or scatter across raised beds. Thin gradually to a final spacing of 5-7.5cm (2-3") between plants. Pull small for salad use.
Sow under cloches for early roots. Carrots grow best in a sunny position in well-cultivated soil which has not recently been manured.

Sowing ➞ Cropping - 12-16 weeks.
