RHS Award of Garden Merit winner.

Beetroot Boltardy is perfect for exhibition. Being deep red in colour and smooth skinned, this beetroot is ideal. Being a winner of the RHS Award of Garden Merit, the beetroot Boltardy will certainly be a favourite in no time at all. Recommended for early sowing.

Suitable for organic growing. Recommended for freezing. Twist off foliage when picking, as cutting will make stems bleed sap. HEALTH BENEFITS: Roots rich in potassium and folate plus some vitamin C, and known to improve the immune system. CULINARY TIPS: Tops of young roots can be used as spinach.

Growing Information

Sow beetroot seeds in mid-spring. Sow autumn crops in mid to late summer. Thin seedlings to roughly 10cm apart to grow large roots.

Sowing Information

Direct sow beetroot seeds outdoors from March to July in a weed free, sunny position in fertile, light, well drained soil. Sow beetroot seeds thinly in shallow drills at a depth of 1cm (1/2") and 30cm (12") apart. Germination will usually take 12 to 24 days. When large enough to handle, thin out the seedlings within each row to 5 - 7cm (2 - 3") apart.
