2 metres (6 feet) seed strip. Approx. 100 seeds.

A Detroit type beet with dark red, globe-shaped roots, smooth crown and very short top. Quick to mature, very consistent shape and delicious sweet flavour. Good tolerance to bolting. The neat, small leaves are an excellent addition to baby leaf salads. Expect 60 days to harvest after germination. Seed tapes help you get strong, healthy plants with no thinning, double planting, or missed spots in the row. Seed tapes help you get strong, healthy plants with no thinning, double planting, or missed spots in the row.

How to Grow

In a sunny site with well worked rich, deep sandy loam soil, sow seed in early spring or again in mid summer for fall crops. Lay out tape and cover with 12 mm of soil. Keep rows at 60 cm apart. Maintain even soil moisture during the 8 to 10 day germination period. Beet is a compound seed (this means each seed can actually produce up to 4 sprouts) so diligent thinning of the sprouts to 7 cm apart is often required. While even soil moisture is required during the active growth period, over watering can lead to excessive leaf growth and pale and/or small roots.
